BlackBerry and Porsche Design produce the BlackBerry Porsche 9981.

I must admit that I fail to understand RIM’s strategy with producing a mobile device priced at around $2000 when the mobile device market is being increasingly commoditized. The specs for the 9981 don’t seem very different from the Bold 9900. There is also the issue of RIM failing to develop a compelling consumer apps ecosystem.

So to summarise my initial thoughts – a new high priced device, with no changes/improvements in device specs (to existing devices) and a poor to average apps ecosystem seems a big bet by RIM in the current competitive market.
